From hill to a hill walk (Van berg tot bergwandeling) Suggested route on the Hagelandse Heuvels en Valleien walking network.
Follow the nodes: 2 - 22 - 23 - 243 - 241 - 242 - 231 - 229 - 230 - 226 - 225 - 157 - 222 - 221 - 21 – 2.
Start at the Church of Our Lady in Tielt-Winge.
Discover another special phenomenon on this walk: the vineyards on the southern slopes of the Houwaartseberg.
Let yourself be guided towards the lower-lying Walenbos, which for the most part stretches out in the valley of the Grote Motte.
Don’t forget to put your waterproof boots on because the Walenbos, with the presence of the Grote Motte and the numerous springs in the vicinity, is a forest full of water.

Because of its unique shape, this staircase has become one of the most important architectural constructions of the Hageland, reinforcing its regional identity. The concept of a floating staircase, with its colour referring to the oxidized sandstone of the regional Diestiaan hills, creates a unique monument.

This 500-hectare nature reserve is relatively young as reserves go. The forest is home to the largest alder forest in Flanders, and its slopes are covered with oak, birch, rowan, maple, hazel and glossy buckthorn.
