In terms of shape and size, this forest has remained largely unchanged since medieval times.
Mainly consisting of oak and beech groves, the forests are interspersed with a fascinating contrast of gullies and dells with colourful names, like Vossenkuil (Foxhole) and Wolvendel (Wolves’ Dell).
The subsoil consists of ferrous sand which peeks through the surface at various points throughout the forest.
The abundance of wild cherry found here is easily one of the forests’ most striking features.
